"MR. JONES. MR. JONES, can you open your eyes for me?"

Ki didn't find it easy to obey the woman's voice. Not when he felt as if his body was comfortably encased in cotton wool.

"What happened this time?" he asked. At least, that's what he thought he said as he opened his eyes to a slit.

The woman bending over him wore blue surgical scrubs with a stethoscope draped around her neck. She held his wrist between her fingertips and glanced down at her watch.

"While you had your nap the doctor put your shoulder back where it belongs." She smiled. "Your wife is outside. Would you like her to come in?"

He closed his eyes because he doubted he could keep them open much longer. "Do I have a choice?"

She chuckled. "Your kids are pretty worried about you, too. Since you're returning to the land of the living, I'll let your wife finish waking you up."

"Believe me, she's much better at knocking people out than waking them up," he muttered.

He smelled the exotic scent before he felt warm lips against his cheek.

"Not a nice thing to say about the mother of your children, Jones," she whispered against his skin. "How do you feel?"

He couldn't help smiling. He wanted to blame it on the knock out drops the nurse had given him, but he knew it was Syd. "As if you had just dislocated my shoulder."

"No, darlin', I'm afraid you did that all by yourself," she murmured, giving him another kiss on the cheek. "Now, why don't you try to wake up enough so we can get you out of here?"

He thought about that plush cotton wool nest surrounding him. "I like it here."

Syd smiled. She remembered times when she hadn't wanted to wake up to the real world, either.

"Trust me, one bed bath and you'll be begging to get out of here." She leaned over to whisper in his ear, tickling the rim with the tip of her tongue, "Besides, I can give you a much nicer bed bath at home."

"I'm awake. I'm fine. Let's go."

When Ki was released from the hospital a couple of hours later, his arm was nestled snugly in a sling and he was feeling no pain. He still wanted nothing more than to curl up in a comer and go back to sleep.

Syd nonchalantly signed Ki's name to the paperwork with a signature that was eerily identical to Ki's scrawl.

"Thank you so much for all your help." She smiled at the doctor. "I promise I'll get him right home and into bed."

"Mr. Jones should restrain from any strenuous activity," he told her. "And he should either come back in a week or have his own physician check him out. I don’t think he did a lot of damage, so he might be one of the lucky ones and not require a lot of physical therapy. But right now, that's hard to say."

Syd leaned over, as if confiding a deep dark secret. "I'll do my best to keep him down, but it won't be easy.
